<p><strong>How long have you been soaping for and how did you get started?<br />
</strong>Time has gone so fast! I feel like it was yesterday that my mom called me to tell me she was buying a small shop in our beautiful Magdalen Islands. I was in Montreal at the time, studying arts at University of Quebec in Montreal. She wanted me to make crafts and art to sell in the shop, as it was located in a very touristic spot and it would give me a summer job opportunity. I had been fascinated by soapmaking since I was a child, seeing my great aunt make her laundry soap out of Gillett&#8217;s Caustic Soda and scrap kitchen oils or grease! For a child, turning grease into soap was pretty impressive! I had my great aunt&#8217;s recipe with me for many years and had almost forgotten about it until that day when the phone rang! I had $200 in my bank account and I just ran and searched for soap supplies and a melt &amp; pour book.</p>
<p>I was busy making soaps in my tiny apartment kitchen and my mom was just like: &#8220;What???? You want to sell soap like your grandma used to make??? It&#8217;s NEVER going to sell!&#8221; She had the laundry soap in mind and was worried I had spent my last dollars at the wrong place. My dad was talking in the background, &#8220;Just let her make soap! If it doesn&#8217;t sell, she doesn&#8217;t have much to lose!&#8221; And there, I came home on the ferry that year with 9 bricks of melt &amp; pour, a few necklaces &amp; handmade postcards and guess what flew off the shelves in less than a week? The soaps! It was crazy! We had to order more supplies from Montreal, wait for the ferry to arrive weekly and make more soap to sell right away. It was a success and I just never stopped making soaps since then! Of course, fast enough, I wanted to learn about cold processed soaps and other handmade cosmetics.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-61399 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/unnamed-5.jpg" alt="unnamed-5" width="700" height="933" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/unnamed-5.jpg 700w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/unnamed-5-225x300.jpg 225w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/unnamed-5-375x500.jpg 375w" sizes="(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><em>In addition to soap, Ariane also makes <a href="http://www.lafilledelamer.com/shop/index.php?id_category=17&amp;controller=category&amp;id_lang=2" target="_blank">balms</a>, <a href="http://www.lafilledelamer.com/shop/index.php?id_category=26&amp;controller=category&amp;id_lang=2" target="_blank">bath salts</a>, <a href="http://www.lafilledelamer.com/shop/index.php?id_category=27&amp;controller=category&amp;id_lang=2" target="_blank">scrubs</a>, <a href="http://www.lafilledelamer.com/shop/index.php?id_category=35&amp;controller=category&amp;id_lang=2" target="_blank">candles</a> and more.</em></p>
<p><strong>What sort of advice would you give to those soapers just starting their businesses?<br />
</strong>Don&#8217;t listen to your mom! Just kidding! Seriously, my advice would be to learn as much as you can and make soaps on a small scale basis at first to really get to know what soapmaking is all about. Try your soaps and once you have enough confidence, you can have your friends and family test them to get some feedback. Start small, that is what I did and I built my way up. I started to make soap in my apartment, then I used my parents cottage for around 8 years. Now I have a small workshop that takes the entire basement of my house. I do have dreams for a bigger workshop after 15 years at this job! Hopefully it will happen soon!</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-61400 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/collage.jpg" alt="collage" width="700" height="700" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/collage.jpg 700w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/collage-300x300.jpg 300w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/collage-500x500.jpg 500w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/collage-120x120.jpg 120w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/collage-170x170.jpg 170w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/collage-240x240.jpg 240w" sizes="(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><em>Top left, clockwise: A collection of Ariane&#8217;s <a href="http://www.lafilledelamer.com/shop/index.php?id_category=21&amp;controller=category&amp;id_lang=2" target="_blank">cold process soap</a>, <a href="http://www.lafilledelamer.com/shop/index.php?id_category=15&amp;controller=category&amp;id_lang=2" target="_blank">melt and pour soap</a>, and a large batch of pink cold process soap. </em></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span id="more-61319"></span></p>
<p><strong>What is your favorite type of product to make?<br />
</strong>Formulating and making cold process soap is my all-time favorite. Even after all this time, I just love to see the reaction between oils and lye water! The thrill it gives to swirl the soap or creating designs is so much fun. You never know when you&#8217;ll get soap-on-a-stick and when you succeed, it&#8217;s a pretty rewarding feeling of accomplishment!</p>
<p><strong>What inspires you to create?<br />
</strong>Nature inspires me to create. On the Magdalen Islands, we have so many additives that I can pick and use in my soaps such as kelp, sand, plants and more! Also, I can buy many additives locally such as honey and beeswax, beer, fresh farmed milk and more. So I work my recipes around the ingredients I have. The sea that surrounds me is very present in my creations.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-61401 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/14102495_10153833374127688_6421801316372782766_n.jpg" alt="14102495_10153833374127688_6421801316372782766_n" width="700" height="525" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/14102495_10153833374127688_6421801316372782766_n.jpg 960w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/14102495_10153833374127688_6421801316372782766_n-365x275.jpg 365w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/14102495_10153833374127688_6421801316372782766_n-300x225.jpg 300w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/14102495_10153833374127688_6421801316372782766_n-768x576.jpg 768w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/14102495_10153833374127688_6421801316372782766_n-667x500.jpg 667w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><em>Ariane sells her products online and in her shop during the spring and summer months. </em></p>
<p><strong>How did you come up with the name for your business?<br />
</strong>The name of my business was my dad&#8217;s idea. Here, many businesses have the word &#8220;Madeleine (Magdalen)&#8221; in it. I wanted a name that is island-like but without being &#8220;Madeleine&#8221; something! La Fille de la Mer, which is the name of my business, means &#8220;The Daughter of the Sea.&#8221; Because yes, I live in that French part of Canada, the province of Quebec. My mom and I loved the idea my dad came up with, since I was born on an island and raise half-time on land and half-time on a boat! But that is a different story!</p>
<p><strong>You have a popular <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMsQ78CkU5UtkA73jGcom3A" target="_blank">soapmaking YouTube channel</a>. What is your favorite part of making videos?<br />
</strong>Well, I work alone most of the time and it can get lonely. Making videos make me feel connected to the rest of the world! Many people write me and share their soapmaking journey with me. It also allows me to network with other people in the industry and to share my inspiration with others.</p>
<p><iframe loading="lazy" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4iM3l7OVE2Y" width="683" height="384" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe></p>
<p><strong>What advice do you have for somebody who is interested in starting a YouTube channel?<br />
</strong>It doesn&#8217;t have to be complicated. The only piece of equipment I recommend, well, apart from a camera, is a tripod. No one like to watch a shaky video. Personally, it gives me a headache if the image isn&#8217;t still! Also, keep your videos under 15 minutes, shorter if you can. People are most likely not going to watch until the end if your videos are 30 minutes long. Keep your work area clean and wear the proper safety equipment on film! If you are going to show others how to make soap or even just show your process, keep it professional. You really don&#8217;t want someone getting hurt for following your footsteps!</p>
<p><strong>You make a lot of large batches of soap on your channel. What advice do you have for masterbatching?<br />
</strong>I am not a pro at masterbatching, because every recipe I have is a bit different! I&#8217;m just like that and I don&#8217;t know why I have to make things more complicated than what they could be. I prepare many batches ahead of time and I plan my recipes on a schedule. When production time starts, I just make my lye water, grab the prepared oils &amp; butters, melt them and soap on! If someone chooses a single formula for every soap, it really gets easier to master batch! I would recommend you watch <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6NFc1XyVdzuyQw-f9HG42g" target="_blank">Soaping 101</a>&#8216;s video on that subject!</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-61402 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/collage2.jpg" alt="collage2" width="700" height="700" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/collage2.jpg 700w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/collage2-300x300.jpg 300w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/collage2-500x500.jpg 500w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/collage2-120x120.jpg 120w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/collage2-170x170.jpg 170w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/collage2-240x240.jpg 240w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><em>Top left, clockwise: <a href="http://www.lafilledelamer.com/shop/index.php?id_product=24&amp;controller=product&amp;id_lang=2" target="_blank">Yuzu Rainbow Soap</a>, <a href="http://www.lafilledelamer.com/shop/index.php?id_product=23&amp;controller=product&amp;id_lang=2" target="_blank">Three Little Fruits Soap Cupcake</a>, <a href="http://www.lafilledelamer.com/shop/index.php?id_product=30&amp;controller=product&amp;id_lang=2" target="_blank">Blueberry Liquor Splash Soap</a>, <a href="http://www.lafilledelamer.com/shop/index.php?id_product=103&amp;controller=product&amp;id_lang=2&amp;search_query=wool&amp;results=2" target="_blank">Lavender Felted Soap</a></em></p>
<p><strong>What is your favorite Bramble Berry product and why?<br />
</strong>Ok, I live in Canada, so I can&#8217;t buy as much stuff from Bramble Berry as I would like to. The exchange rate and custom fees are just killing it for me! But, there are some fragrances I just can&#8217;t live without. <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/Yuzu-Cybilla-Fragrance-Oil-P3412.aspx?" target="_blank">Yuzu</a>, <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/Energy-Fragrance-Oil-P3861.aspx?" target="_blank">Energy</a>, <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/LoveSpell-Type-Fragrance-Oil-P4442.aspx?" target="_blank">LoveSpell</a>, <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/Santas-Spruce-Fragrance-Oil-P3867.aspx?" target="_blank">Santa&#8217;s Spruce</a> and <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/Sweet-Meyer-Lemon-Fragrance-Oil-P4895.aspx?" target="_blank">Sweet Meyer Lemon</a>, to name a few. Also, the <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/For-Bath-Bombs-C50.aspx" target="_blank">bath bombs colorants</a> are super awesome!</p>
<p><strong>Tell us something unusual or unique about yourself!<br />
</strong>That is always something hard to say for ourselves… I speak 3 languages? I have a chicken coop and eat fresh eggs daily? I was raised by a sailor hippy dad and a mom who loved to sail the Caribbeans on our sailboat? I learn to swim before I could walk? I was home schooled part of my childhood? I could drive my own 10 horse power dingy when I was 12 years old? Haha! I don&#8217;t know what to say…</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-61404 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/unnamed-4.jpg" alt="unnamed-4" width="700" height="525" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/unnamed-4.jpg 700w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/unnamed-4-365x275.jpg 365w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/unnamed-4-300x225.jpg 300w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/unnamed-4-667x500.jpg 667w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><em><a href="http://www.lafilledelamer.com/shop/index.php?id_product=19&amp;controller=product&amp;id_lang=2" target="_blank">Sweet Raspberry &amp; Vanilla Soap Cupcakes</a>. I love the layers of frosting and cute berries on top!</em></p>
<p><strong>What are some of your other hobbies and interests?</strong><br />
I have always been a crafty gal! I think it&#8217;s all related, but I love gardening, eating and cooking healthy food for my 3 kids and their dad. I love being outdoors and traveling when I have an opportunity to do so. If I had the means, I would take my kids to explore the world, like my parents did with me growing up.<strong><br />
</strong><br />
<strong>What is your number one soaping tip? </strong><strong><br />
</strong>Use quality ingredients. Never create a formula that you wouldn&#8217;t use yourself. With quality, people will be back for more. Add your special twist to everything you make so your products are recognizable when people see them.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-61405 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/14022219_10153833374077688_7264593213063323310_n.jpg" alt="14022219_10153833374077688_7264593213063323310_n" width="700" height="525" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/14022219_10153833374077688_7264593213063323310_n.jpg 960w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/14022219_10153833374077688_7264593213063323310_n-365x275.jpg 365w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/14022219_10153833374077688_7264593213063323310_n-300x225.jpg 300w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/14022219_10153833374077688_7264593213063323310_n-768x576.jpg 768w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/14022219_10153833374077688_7264593213063323310_n-667x500.jpg 667w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><em>A collection of Ariane&#8217;s cold process soaps. Aren&#8217;t her labels fun? </em></p>
<p><strong>Have you ever experienced a horrible soapy fail? How did you work through it, and what did you learn?</strong><br />
Oh my! A couple years ago, I decided to go back to school to get a business and accounting degree. I was the mother of 2, studying part time and making soap the rest of the week. One day, I forgot a 25 lbs batch of soap on the stove top and when I came back from class 2 hours later black smoke was literally shooting out the windows and doors! I was frantic! I thought I had set fire to my workshop and house! Luckily the stove was on low heat and the lid had remained closed so no oxygen was in contact with the boiling oils. But my whole house smelled like smoke and my workshop was covered by a smoky and oily residue. We had 5 cleaning experts here for a whole week and had $15,000 in damage. I was lucky the insurance company covered it, but let me tell you, ALWAYS double check that you turn the heat off before you leave. I was convinced that I had turned off the stove that day. I had something else on my mind (class) and got distracted. Now, I have signs everywhere in my workshop,&#8221;Did you turn off the heat???&#8221; in big red bold letters! I surely learned to be more cautious.</p>

<p><strong>What do you love most about creating bath and body products?</strong><br />
As I mentioned previously, I have an Arts degree. Being creative is something that is part of me. For a while, before I had children, I made soap, had a second job and I painted and took artistic photographs. I don&#8217;t do that much anymore, but soapmaking is what allows me to express my creativity. The endless color combinations, the design that can be made and the rainbow of fragrances and essential oils that can be used in soap makes me feel great at the end of the day! Creating new designs is what keeps me happy at my job, because today, soapmaking is my only job and I&#8217;m very proud about that.</p>

<p><strong>How long have you been soaping for and how did you get started?</strong><br />
I&#8217;ve been soaping for 7 months now. To be more precise it&#8217;s been 7 months and 2 weeks and I&#8217;m looking forward to many, many more. Every time I get asked this question I answer &#8220;Texas did it to me!&#8221; and it&#8217;s true! I was in Texas for a week at the end of July last year and I swear, there was something in the air. I actually started off by making skin care products in March of last year. Soap was never on my mind. While in Texas, during my very first day, I found myself watching soap making videos. Don&#8217;t ask me how I started watching them because I seriously have no idea. I just remember being fascinated by the action of a stick blender going through the melted oils and lye solution. Even now I could watch someone stick blend soap for 10-15 minutes.</p>
<p>Most soap makers started because they wanted a natural solution, or they wanted to give homemade gifts. I started because I was fascinated by a stick blender in action. Little did I know that the stick blender was only the beginning of the magic. I spent that entire week in the hotel room reading and watching videos about soap making. I watched all the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/soaping101" target="_blank">Soaping101</a> and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/soapqueentv" target="_blank">Soap Queen TV</a> videos, and I read as much as I could. Then I ordered a silicone mold and lye from Amazon because I wanted to make sure I had them in my mail box when I got home. I got home on July 31st (yes, I remember because it&#8217;s the first day I ever made soap) at 7 p.m., and as soon as I got home I made my very first batch of soap. It was all it took for me to fall in love with soap, especially after I cut the first slice. I&#8217;ve been hooked since.</p>
<p><strong>What sort of advice would you give to those soapers just starting their businesses?<br />
</strong>When it comes to business I can&#8217;t really give any advice, I have a lot to learn in that department. It&#8217;s been less than 8 months since I made my first batch, therefore I didn&#8217;t start selling until 2 months ago. For now I sell on Etsy, and of course to my friend&#8217;s friends and their friends, the word of mouth spreads really fast.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-57349 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage-14.jpg" alt="collage" width="700" height="350" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage-14.jpg 700w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage-14-300x150.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><em>Left to right: <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/7Bv4D4ly4j/?taken-by=earthsrawbeauty" target="_blank">Rainbow Cold Process Soap</a>, <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/256661715/balanced-energy-naturalunscented?ref=shop_home_feat_1" target="_blank">Balanced Energy Natural Soap</a></em></p>
<p><strong>What is your favorite type of product to make?<br />
</strong>Now this is a very easy question. I make all kinds of skin care products: salves, butters, balms, creams, lotions, scrubs, bath bombs (my worst enemy), etc. By far, cold process soap is my favorite product to make.</p>
<p><span id="more-57348"></span></p>
<p><strong>What inspires you to create?<br />
</strong>Most of the time I get ideas out of nowhere; like while I&#8217;m doing dishes, cleaning soap, or while packaging soaps. A lot of my ideas also come to me while I sleep. It might sound weird, but a lot of my designs are from my dreams. I know, I know what you&#8217;re thinking but let me assure you, they are real dreams not hallucinations. <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f609.png" alt="😉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> I guess the soaping muse loves Vegas nights because she keeps visiting me, haha.</p>
<p>Nature also inspires me. Birds, insects, animals, plants, trees, water, they all inspire me. I also get inspired by soaps made by other soap artists, there&#8217;s so much beauty out there. I love going through <a href="https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/soapshare/" target="_blank">#soapshare on Instagram</a>, it&#8217;s like I&#8217;m visiting an art museum.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-57350 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/12729453_977856688971219_1041953569_n.jpg" alt="12729453_977856688971219_1041953569_n" width="700" height="700" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/12729453_977856688971219_1041953569_n.jpg 1080w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/12729453_977856688971219_1041953569_n-300x300.jpg 300w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/12729453_977856688971219_1041953569_n-768x768.jpg 768w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/12729453_977856688971219_1041953569_n-500x500.jpg 500w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/12729453_977856688971219_1041953569_n-120x120.jpg 120w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/12729453_977856688971219_1041953569_n-170x170.jpg 170w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/12729453_977856688971219_1041953569_n-240x240.jpg 240w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><em>Carmen&#8217;s stunning <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BCTE5Nslyzk/" target="_blank">Moon Bloomed Cold Process Soap</a>. Her layers are so straight and crisp!</em></p>
<p><strong>How did you come up with the name for your business?<br />
</strong>Sophie is my friend&#8217;s 4-year-old daughter and she&#8217;s the most beautiful child I&#8217;ve ever seen. She has an angelic beauty, white almost translucent skin, green eyes and a heart shaped little mouth. Her face has a unique brightness and I always called her Raw Beauty. When I started making skin care products I wanted to use what earth provides us with as much as I could. I use lots of plants, dry flowers, roots, etc. So I combined Earth with Raw Beauty (Sophie&#8217;s nickname) and I came up with Earths Raw Beauty. I like it because the initials form ERB, which is pronounced like &#8220;herb,&#8221; something I use a lot to infuse my oils. And secretly, I wish my products would make everybody&#8217;s skin look like Sophie&#8217;s skin if I called them the same name I call Sophie. Well, that was a joke, but  wouldn&#8217;t that be nice?</p>
<p><strong>Your soapy designs are so creative and beautiful! How do you think of your designs? What advice do you have for other soapers looking to experiment with new techniques?<br />
</strong>Thank you! As you can see from <a href="https://www.instagram.com/earthsrawbeauty/" target="_blank">my Instagram page</a>, I love colors and layered soaps. I also love using more than one technique in a soap. There are plenty of colors and techniques, so the sky is the limit.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t be afraid to try new techniques even if they seem impossible to achieve. Believe me, none of them are impossible and all of them can be achieved by any soap maker. If you don&#8217;t have a one pound mold, consider any small plastic container and attempt new techniques in small batches. Also consider using 25/35/40 coconut oil, lard, and canola oil if you don&#8217;t want to waste good expensive oils. Not only that, lard and canola oil are cheap but they make a pretty good bar of soap, ask me how I know. <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f609.png" alt="😉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-57351 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage2.jpg" alt="collage2" width="700" height="700" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage2.jpg 700w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage2-300x300.jpg 300w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage2-500x500.jpg 500w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage2-120x120.jpg 120w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage2-170x170.jpg 170w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage2-240x240.jpg 240w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><em>Top left, clockwise: <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BBdM_amly54/?taken-by=earthsrawbeauty" target="_blank">Lucky You Cold Process Soap</a>, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BB-eLeHly23/" target="_blank">Winter Landscape Cold Process Soap</a>, <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/260555139/sweet-juicy?ref=shop_home_active_5" target="_blank">Sweet &amp; Juicy Cold Process Soap</a>, <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/256706099/rise-and-shine?ref=shop_home_active_22" target="_blank">Rise and Shine Cold Process Soap</a></em></p>
<p><strong>Your Instagram page features lots of lovely photos. What tips do you have for taking product photos on Instagram?<br />
</strong>Oh, boy! I was hoping I wouldn&#8217;t have to give out my picture taking secrets. I&#8217;m lucky enough to have a very sophisticated photo lab consisting of 3 vital components: natural light in the back yard, an old white satin sheet, and my very old &#8220;first edition&#8221; iPad. But with a lot of movement on my part, positioning and re positioning the soaps in different angles and lots of screen shots I always manage to take a decent picture.</p>
<p><strong>What is your favorite Bramble Berry product and why?<br />
</strong>Now this is not fair! You cannot limit me to just one product. The best I could do is list two, one of which is fragrance oil. When it comes to fragrance oils I need to mention three. I can&#8217;t let myself run out of <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/Energy-Fragrance-Oil-P3861.aspx" target="_blank">Energy Fragrance Oil</a>, <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/Made-to-Measure-Type.aspx" target="_blank">Made to Measure Fragrance Oil</a>, and <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/Orange-Peel-Cybilla-Fragrance-Oil-P3391.aspx" target="_blank">Orange Peel Cybilla Fragrance Oil</a>. They soap beautifully and the scent lasts forever. I have bars made with these fragrance oils 6 months ago and they still smell like when I made them. The other product is the <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/Hanger-Swirl-Tool-P6263.aspx" target="_blank">Hanger Swirl Tool</a>, I just love how the length can be adjusted.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-57353 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage3.jpg" alt="collage3" width="700" height="350" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage3.jpg 700w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage3-300x150.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><em>Left to right: <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/266277799/house-of-hearts-his-and-hers?ref=shop_home_active_21" target="_blank">House of Hearts Cold Process Soap</a>, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/8Wplyvlyy9/?taken-by=earthsrawbeauty" target="_blank">Spectrum Goats Milk Cold Process Soap</a></em></p>
<p><strong>Tell us something unusual or unique about yourself!<br />
</strong>Seriously, there&#8217;s nothing unique about me, I&#8217;m just a regular person. I can only see one thing that may be unusual about me, unusual to others but not to me. I sometimes watch TV while sitting in the splits position. I&#8217;m very flexible for my age and I don&#8217;t mind revealing that I&#8217;m 44 years young. <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f609.png" alt="😉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> I also do handstands every day, I go upside down a few times during the day. Maybe the frequent rush of blood flow to my brain explains some of my soap inspirations, haha.</p>
<p><strong>What are some of your other hobbies and interests?<br />
</strong>Honestly, I did not have a hobby before I started soaping. I had many interests like reading, hiking, yoga, flying trapeze, gymnastics, acrobatics, and obstacle running, but not a hobby.</p>
<p><strong>What is your number one soaping tip?<br />
</strong>Nobody can make soap without lye, but I cannot make soap without lye and goats milk. All of my soaps are made with fresh goats milk (not powder). I often get asked how my goat milk soaps are so white. I experimented a lot with goats milk; after so many experiments my goat milk goes to the oils, it does not get mixed with the lye. I always have 1:1 lye solution ready. Then I substitute the remaining quantity of water the recipe asks for with goats milk and add it to the oils before mixing the lye in (I soap at room temperature). I just don&#8217;t like the idea of lye directly interacting with the precious goats milk, even if it&#8217;s frozen. It saves not just time, but also protects the milk from going from one extreme temperature to another too many times. So, my tip for those who make soap with milk would be to mix the milk with oils instead of mixing it with lye or with the lye solution.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-57355 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage4.jpg" alt="collage4" width="700" height="700" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage4.jpg 700w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage4-300x300.jpg 300w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage4-500x500.jpg 500w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage4-120x120.jpg 120w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage4-170x170.jpg 170w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/collage4-240x240.jpg 240w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><em>Top left, clockwise: <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BATD1FpFy0O/" target="_blank">Rainbow Lily Cold Process Soap</a>, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BCtLkXjly4q/?taken-by=earthsrawbeauty" target="_blank">Dragon Fruit Goat Milk Soap</a>, <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/260573229/christmas-sweetness?ref=shop_home_active_13" target="_blank">Christmas Sweetness Cold Process Soap</a>, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BCGAIT1Fy26/?taken-by=earthsrawbeauty" target="_blank">Persephone Cold Process Soap</a></em></p>
<p><strong>Have you ever experienced a horrible soapy fail? How did you work through it, and what did you learn?<br />
</strong>Of course, haha! It was about 3-4 weeks after I started soaping and the first time I used a fragrance oil. It was Bramble Berry&#8217;s <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/Celestial-Waters-Cybilla-Fragrance-Oil-P3361.aspx" target="_blank">Celestial Waters</a>, but that wasn&#8217;t the cause of my soap fail. I live in Las Vegas and it gets over 110 ° F during the summer. I cut my nicely swirled blue soap and took it outside for a photo session, all 10 bars got nicely aligned side by side on a chaise lounge. I took the picture and it got posted on Instagram, the usual soapy ritual. Maybe a couple hours later I went outside and I noticed a pretty blue puddle on the chaise lounge. I forgot to take the soap inside and the sun melted it, I almost cried. But, I used 2 oz of <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/Celestial-Waters-Cybilla-Fragrance-Oil-P3361.aspx" target="_blank">Celestial Waters</a> and I couldn&#8217;t let that get wasted. I ran inside, I grabbed the mold, scooped as much soap as I could and threw it back in the mold. Next day I cut it again and it looked just fine, the swirls weren&#8217;t as defined as the first time but it was nice and smooth and smelled fantastic. I still have a bar and I think I will keep it forever. What did I learn? That a &#8220;Sun Milled Soap&#8221; can be just as good as a French Milled Soap. <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f609.png" alt="😉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p>

<p><strong>How long have you been soaping for and how did you get started?</strong><br />
As of this month, we’ve been soaping for three years. Our journey as soapmakers started shortly after we took a course on cold process soap making. At the time, Stud Preston was getting ready to graduate with a degree in philosophy and Stud Tyler had just moved back to Sacramento after having been on NBC’s The Voice and living in LA. We found that making soap was an enigmatic process; it combined art and chemistry in the most cathartic way, so we knew it had to become a mainstay in our lives. Consequently, we ordered $200 worth of supplies to start and became super addicted. Our newfound hobby was overrunning our lives, and outgrowing our studio apartment, so we decided to turn it in to a business.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/OwnersInTheSoapery-1.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-56530 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/OwnersInTheSoapery-1.jpg" alt="OwnersInTheSoapery (1)" width="700" height="448" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/OwnersInTheSoapery-1.jpg 700w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/OwnersInTheSoapery-1-300x192.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /></a><em>Preston and Tyler work together to create their beautiful products. </em><a href="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/OwnersInTheSoapery-1.jpg"><br />
</a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span id="more-56526"></span></p>
<p><strong>What sort of advice would you give to those soapers just starting their businesses?<br />
</strong>Our best piece of advice is to treat your business as a business. That entails creating a business plan, getting your finances in order, developing a solid product line, pricing your products effectively, establishing a concise brand image, getting familiarized with all relevant industry regulations, understanding potential liabilities as well as legal protections, acquiring good insurance, and being willing to work most hours of the day, year round. With respect to soaping, our best advice is to learn the fundamentals of chemistry involved in saponification. If you are not acquainted with lab safety protocol, stoichiometry, or triglycerides to name a few, then we highly recommend getting a proper book on the science of soapmaking. You’ll uncover the underlying nature of soap while reinforcing your mastery of the craft; when you can formulate a complex recipe without the use of a soap calculator, or fully describe, as well as draw, the molecular interactions between your oils and lye, you’ll feel phenomenal!</p>
<p><strong>What is your favorite type of product to make?</strong><br />
Our favorite product to make would have to be cold process soap.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong><a href="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/collage17.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-56532 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/collage17.jpg" alt="collage" width="700" height="371" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/collage17.jpg 700w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/collage17-300x159.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /></a></strong><em>Left to right: <a href="https://sudzbystudz.com/shop/soap/sparkling-blackberry-sage/" target="_blank">Blackberry Sage Swirl Soap</a>, a gorgeous purple and green diagonal layered soap. </em><strong><br />
</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>What inspires you to create?</strong><br />
There are so many things that we find inspirational, so we will try to answer laconically. As silly as this may sound, a major source of our inspiration comes from each other; we are partners in both business and life, so we rely on one another for a lot of things. Additionally, we draw inspiration to create from nature, traveling, art, music, food and books.</p>
<p><strong>How did you come up with the name for your business?<br />
</strong>When we started our business, we wanted to imbue our newfound love for making soap with our personalities. Ultimately, we wanted to establish a brand that clearly, and quickly, delineated who we were and what we were doing. Beyond that, it was imperative that it be catchy, contain alliteration and have syllabic symmetry. After a few days of bouncing around ideas, we found the perfect fit: Sudz By Studz.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/2CPColumn1080.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-56533 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/2CPColumn1080.jpg" alt="2CPColumn1080" width="700" height="467" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/2CPColumn1080.jpg 700w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/2CPColumn1080-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /></a><em>A stunning column swirl cold process soap. I love those colors! Check out the <a href="https://soapqueen.mom/bath-and-body-tutorials/cold-process-soap/havana-classic-starfish-column-pour/" target="_blank">Neptune Column Pour Tutorial</a> to see how this technique is done. </em></p>
<p><strong>I understand you recently started a subscription service! How does that work? Why did you decide to give it a try?<br />
</strong>Admittedly, we started our <a href="https://sudzbystudz.com/product-category/soap-of-the-month/" target="_blank">Soap of the Month Sudzcription</a> for very selfish reasons: we wanted free reign to create exclusive soaps that were fun for us and showcased our creativity. In essence, our intention was to provide our customers the luxury of bathing with soap that would traditionally only be found in a soapmaker’s shower, while simultaneously allowing us to do our own thing in the soapery. We recently sent out the first installment to our subscribers and are receiving an overwhelmingly positive response. Currently, our subscribers can sign on for 6 months or 12 months for a onetime fee – shipping included. Then, during the first week of every month, we send the new subscription to our customers. To add our signature as a finishing touch, we wrap each bar of soap in a cigar band of our handmade ebru/marble paper art.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_7117.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-56534 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_7117.jpg" alt="IMG_7117" width="700" height="467" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_7117.jpg 700w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_7117-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /></a><em>S</em><em>tud Tyler shows off some cold process soap that resembles a face!</em></p>
<p><strong>Your Instagram page features lots of lovely photos. What tips do you have for taking product photos on Instagram?<br />
</strong>First, begin with your end goal in mind and make sure it is relevant to your brand audience. Ask yourself, “What do I intend to communicate with this photo and how can I best do that?” As with most things in life, once you know where you’re going, it’s much easier to get there. Second, gather everything necessary, whether it is lighting or complementary props, to get the perfect shot. Third, accept what tools you have to work with and make them work for you; we used a cellphone camera for our first two years of business (no shame!). Last, once everything is set up to your liking, take photos and review them to see if they are capturing your desired results. Be prepared to try new orientations, reset props, find different types of lighting, and so on. Once you believe you have the perfect shot, take at least five more frames to ensure you’ve got it. Like making soap, capturing the perfect photo relies on a delicate balance of variables – all of which you have control over if you’re willing to try, make mistakes, and learn from them.</p>
<p><strong>What is your favorite Bramble Berry product and why?<br />
</strong>This is a no-brainer for us! Our favorite Bramble Berry product is <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/Champagne-Fragrance-Oil-P4374.aspx" target="_blank">Champagne Fragrance Oil</a>, hands down. To start, the aroma is beyond rapturous and effervescent; our favorite thing about it is that you can almost taste sparkling bubbles in the back of your throat when you smell it fresh in the bottle. That is to say, it is a full-on sensory experience, whether in the bottle or in soap. Furthermore, in our experience, it blends very well with many other Bramble Berry essentials and fragrances. If you visit us at our soapery, you’ll find that we keep a bottle on hand at all times. Also, we highly recommend any <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/Silicone-Molds-C548.aspx" target="_blank">silicone mold</a> from Bramble Berry.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/collage23.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-56536 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/collage23.jpg" alt="collage2" width="700" height="778" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/collage23.jpg 700w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/collage23-270x300.jpg 270w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/collage23-450x500.jpg 450w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /></a><em>Top, clockwise: Unmolded and cut column pour cold process soap, beautifully packaged bars, limited edition spring cold process soap.</em></p>
<p><strong>Tell us something unusual or unique about yourself!<br />
</strong>We recently received certification as an LGBT owned business enterprise and are male soapmakers. As for Stud Tyler, he is one of six kids in his family, has a penchant for gnomes, and loves to wear bowties. Stud Preston is an only child, the treasurer for our local Rainbow Chamber of Commerce, and is currently preparing to apply for law school.</p>
<p><strong>What are some of your other hobbies and interests?<br />
</strong>Art (especially ebru and mixed media), baking, singing, sustainable living, electric vehicles, watching television, playing old school Nintendo, and all things RuPaul + drag queen related.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_7715.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-56537 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_7715.jpg" alt="IMG_7715" width="700" height="467" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_7715.jpg 700w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_7715-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /></a><em>P</em><em>reston and Tyler take beautiful photographs. Shown here, their soap is hanging by the pool in Santorini, Greece.</em></p>
<p><strong>What is your number one soaping tip?<br />
</strong>Find the soaping temperature that works best for you and stick with it. Also, add your FO/EO to your oils before mixing in the lye solution in order to mitigate unnecessary stress to the reaction.</p>
<p><strong>Have you ever experienced a horrible soapy fail? How did you work through it, and what did you learn?<br />
</strong>During our first holiday season, we encountered a few soapy fails using some holiday fragrance oils. The first batch accelerated and turned into cement before we could even homogenize the ingredients. The second batch had an oil slick on it after setting up, so we used the <a href="https://soapqueen.mom/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/hot-process-hero-2/" target="_blank">Hot Process Hero</a> method to rescue it. Lastly, our initial experience with making beer soap was problematic. Once we added some lye, the beer started overflowing rapidly out of the container. From then on, we made sure to boil the beer before making our lye solution.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/CoffeeCamo.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-56538 aligncenter" src="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/CoffeeCamo.jpg" alt="CoffeeCamo" width="700" height="467" srcset="https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/CoffeeCamo.jpg 700w, https://eadn-wc05-18592439.nxedge.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/CoffeeCamo-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /></a><em>T</em><em>riple brewed coffee cold process soap. </em></p>
<p><strong>What do you love most about creating bath and body products?<br />
</strong>Beyond all of the things we’ve mentioned, we love being able to share, as well as use, our bath and body products. Our customers get very personal with our products, which requires a tremendous amount of trust, and we cherish being able to provide them with assurance.</p>

<p><em>A quick note</em>: &#8216;Organic&#8217; is a heavily regulated term by the USDA, while &#8216;natural&#8217; is not. Do your homework before purchasing products that are labeled as &#8216;organic,&#8217; and keep in mind that &#8216;natural&#8217; could mean a range of things. <a href="https://soapqueen.mom/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/natural-vs-organic/">Check out this blog post for more information</a>. Bramble Berry carries a certified-oils <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/Organic-Melt-Pour-Base-P4382.aspx">Organic Melt &amp; Pour Base</a> as well as <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/Organic-Lavender-Essential-Oil-P5451.aspx">Organic Lavender</a> and <a href="https://www.brambleberry.com/Rosemary-Organic-Essential-Oil-P4030.aspx">Rosemary</a> Essential Oils.</p>

<p><strong>How long have you been soaping for and how did you get started?</strong></p>
<p>I’ve been soaping for two years now.  My desire to make my own soap started right after my younger son was born. He was a preemie and spent some time in the NICU. His little body was working so hard to grow that I didn’t want to make it any harder on him by introducing chemicals into his body that his system would have to process out.</p>

<p>In my search for soap I realized two things: it is expensive, and much of it is boring!  So began my quest to learn to make soap for kids and make it affordable for other families like mine.</p>
<p>My first teacher was the Soap Queen herself; Anne Marie via her <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/soapqueentv">Soap Queen M&amp;P videos</a>.</p>

<div><strong>What advice would you give to soapers just starting their businesses?</strong></div>
<p>Don’t be afraid to try things – you’ll have some bombs, but your successes will be worth it. Also, research research research.  What colors/fragrances/textures/<wbr />ingredients are popular?  Is there a hole in the market? Fill it, and put your own spin on your products as you do so. Be sure to buy the soap cutter tool! Lastly, give customers a reason to come back to you; high quality products and great customer service never hurt anybody.</p>
<p>If you’re making soap in shapes that look like they could be candy, and you have them in a big bowl on the counter in the kitchen because you’re getting ready to package them…maybe consider putting up a sign!</p>

<div>
<p><strong>How did you come up with the name for your business?</strong></p>
</div>
<p>It’s a mix of my two boys’ names – Elliott and Harrison = Ellison.  I thought if I was doing it for them, it should reflect them (plus it’s easy for me to remember with my mom brain).</p>
<div><strong>What is your favorite type of product to make?</strong></div>
<p>It’s a tie between the kids’ soaps (so many fun shapes) and nail polish (the colors! the glitter!).</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter" alt="" src="http://images.soapqueen.mom/_2014/Interviews/EllisonOraganics/boots.jpg" width="498" height="664" /></p>
<div>
<p><strong>What inspires you to create?</strong></p>
</div>
<p>There is a little boy that has come to see me for the last two years at a craft show.  He brings his crumpled dollar bills and handful of change and carefully chooses his soap (he always leaves with most of his money and a lot of soap) and then he goes around the entire show telling everyone about his treasures.  The excitement that something so simple can bring to a child is well worth the late nights and the failed attempts.  It is wonderful to know that children can enjoy something so much.</p>

<p>The opportunity to be creative while providing options for a healthier lifestyle is a blessing.  I enjoy providing body-friendly, high-quality handmade personal products for every member of the family.</p>

<div><strong>What is your favorite Bramble Berry product?</strong></div>
<p>Most often I find myself geeking out over new soap molds, and I love how easy the liquid colorants are to use.  My new line of nail polishes are also all Bramble Berry’s fault.  Oops…too many things.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter" alt="" src="http://images.soapqueen.mom/_2014/Interviews/EllisonOraganics/polish.jpg" width="498" height="373" /></p>
<div>
<p><strong>Tell us a little bit about yourself! When you’re not busy making soaps, what are you up to?</strong></p>
</div>
<p>Most of my time is taken up herding two energetic boys (5 and 2) and working from home/waiting rooms.  I proofread depositions for court reporters by day, and soap by night.  My husband goes to school and works, so we’re a busy bunch.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter" alt="" src="http://images.soapqueen.mom/_2014/Interviews/EllisonOraganics/Airplane.jpg" width="498" height="498" /></p>
<div><strong>How did you come up with your branding and packaging?</strong></div>
<p>I wanted my packaging to reflect the nature of my products, and also be classy and protect the product.  I’ve tried to keep it as simple as possible so I can keep costs, and therefore prices, low.</p>
